Here’s   a   real   relic,   the   program   from   the   historic   first   actual   gig   the   group   did   at   St.   Thomas   Aquinas Church   in   1953.   We   had   appeared   at   the   Lebanese   Club   earlier,   just   after   we   met   Bill.   I   don’t   think   we performed   as   a   trio   before   that.   That’s   the   club   we   had   been   going   to   when   Ted   mentioned   he   had   a bass   friend   and   where   he   came   to   meet   us.   We   went   outside   to   my   ’47   Chev   and   sang   ‘Down   by   the Riverside’   and   the   sound   blew   our   minds.   A   week   or   two   later   we   sang   there   as   a   foursome.   I   don’t remember   there   being   an   actual   stage   but   there   was   an   area   at   the   front   where   the   small   group   of musicians   were   and   the   kids   all   stood   around   and   listened.   We   must   have   sung   there   3   or   4   times,   but the Church affair was a real show. __ Phil Levitt
