2nd Annual Alderson Fall Festival on the Bridge (2023) Decorating Contest Rules
To enhance our small-town charm, Alderson Mainstreet and the Town of Alderson are offering a unique competition with three categories for businesses, individuals, and non-profit organizations to make a decoration arranged around our various main street light posts and other select areas. If you fit one of the above categories and would like to participate, contact Don Sutherland at donsutherland2003@yahoo.com for an application form. The rules of the competition are as follows: 1. Decorations may be any theme that supports the Fall Festival and season. Don will provide a numbered pole/location for your creation. 2. The entries must be in place by Tuesday, October 3rd by 5:00pm. They will be judged from October 4th to the 6th. They will need to remain in place until Wednesday, November 1st. They are to be removed completely by 5:00pm on November 1st and disposed of by the participant. 3. The entries may be any variation of decoration that has a Fall theme that you wish to use. Participants can use anything that meets the above criteria to advertise for your organization or business. The scarecrow and decorations must withstand the elements of weather and time, meaning make them water and windproof. Materials for decorating are at participant’s expense. 4. Items used must be tactful and have no profanity, sexual connotation, or innuendo. Remember this is a family friendly, small-town event. 5. It is the participants’ responsibility to make sure their entry does not obstruct the sidewalk or fall into the roadway. You will have to use material to secure them to the poles that does not require drilling or permanent fixtures to the post. 6. Any paint used must be applied before setup at the pole. No paint may be applied to the poles. 7. If at any time the entry becomes an obstruction, falls apart, does not stay attached to the post or bale, the entrant will be notified and it shall be removed or repaired. 8. Judging will be based on creativity, use of materials, and overall presentation. Again, the three categories are business, individual, and non-profits. Linking the decoration to your business or organization is part of judging criteria.
