Update About The Flood Mitigation And Repair As   you   have   noticed,   while   picking   up   and   dropping   off   children   at   school   or   traveling   in   town,   much progress   has   been   made   moving   North   on   Virginia   Street.   This   is   new   storm   drain   to   help   alleviate   runoff and to tie into existing drain lines that were damaged during the flood. This   repair   has   made   larger   lines   that   run   straight   to   the   river   with   special   closures   on   the   end   so   they don’t back up with water. The same that were installed on Washington Street and Johnson St. The    plan,    very    soon,    is    to    tie    into    the    walnut    street    drain    to    help    the    Greenbrier    County    School Maintenance   team   eliminate   the   flooding   of   the   cafeteria   and   classrooms   that   have   been   a   major   problem with heavy rain off their buildings this past month. Talk   about   timing,   it   is   good   that   this   work   is   happening   now   because   our   teams   have   been   able   to   make their   problems   have   a   better   solution   as   a   result   of   everyone   being   in   the   area   at   the   same   time.   One   of the pictures below is showing their team digging to meet our team at a new drop inlet. A    BASE    FILL    OF    ASPHALT    WILL    BE    APPLIED    TO    MAKE    THE    GRAVEL    FILLED    TRENCHES SMOOTHER   IN   THE   AREA   VERY   SOON.   You   may   have   noticed   digging   in   old   openings   as   the   crews have came up Virginia Street. This is why we didn’t waste money on asphalt. PLEASE   PAY ATTENTION   TO   THE   SIGNS AND   DON’T   DRIVE AROUND   THEM   OR   IN   YARDS   TO   GET THROUGH.   Open   trenches   and   drop   inlet   boxes   will   damage   your   vehicle   or   you.   We   also   don’t   want   the workers   ran   over   either.   This   would   slow   construction   and   cause   you   more   delay   in   your   normal   driving routes. May cause a problem for the guy who gets hit too. (click for larger view)
