TOWN OF ALDERSON POST OFFICE BOX 179 CITY BUILDING—202 SOUTH MONROE STREET ALDERSON, WEST VIRGINIA 24910 TELEPHONE (304) 445-2916 NEWS RELEASE - 1-02-2018
DISLOCATED WORKER PROGRAM BOON FOR ALDERSON The    Dislocated    Worker    Program    managed    by    the    Human    Resources    Development    Foundation    was recognized   on   February   8   by   the   Council   of   the   Town   of   Alderson   for   the   excellent   work   they   have   done along   the   Greenbrier   River.      In   the   aftermath   of   the   June   2016   flooding,   there   was   a   lot   of   debris   that collected   along   the   riverbank   and   on   “islands”   in   the   river.      There   was   concern   that   more   debris   would keep collecting and subsequent high water would back up even further.  Program   Coordinator   Debbie   Anderson   reported   that   over   3800   hours   of   work   had   been   done   to   clear debris   in   the   Alderson   area.      She   noted   that   workers   are   considered   “displaced”   if   they   have   been   out   of work   for   27   or   more   weeks.      These   workers   are   given   training   in   new   skill   areas   and   help   with   resume writing to help them find other jobs. The   workers   in   the   Alderson   area   were   supervised   by   Thomas   Drumheller   with   help   from   crew   leader Ronald McCallister.  A total of 11 crews are at work in southern West Virginia. Mayor   Travis   Copenhaver   said,   “We   really   appreciate   the   work   these   crews   have   done.      Our   riverbanks are much safer because of their efforts.”  PHOTO   CAPTION:      (l   to   r)   Debbie Anderson,   Program   Coordinator;   Thomas   Drumheller,   Supervisor;   and Ronald McCallister, Crew Leader, receive congratulations and thanks from Mayor Travis Copenhaver.
