MORE WORK –MORE HELP Another   day   of   cleanup   and   help   in   Alderson   has   resulted   in   much   progress.      Power   is   on   to   most   residents   and most   of   the   rest   should   be   restored   this   evening.      Basements   have   been   pumped,   propane   tanks   secured,   and other   dangers   have   been   removed   so   that   turning   on   the   power   will   be   safe.      There   have   been   no   incidents associated with the restoration of power.  The   outpouring   of   support   by   people   all   over   West   Virginia,   Virginia   and   elsewhere   has   been   amazing.      Work crews   came   and   were   assigned   to   help   people   with   clean   up.      Many   individuals   and   groups   brought   in   food   and other supplies.   Mayor   Travis   Copenhaver   said,   “Out   of   this   horrible   mess,   people   have   been   shining   stars.      Our   town   employees, Alderson   Volunteer   Fire   Department   members,   Alderson   Community   Center   Board   members   and   volunteers,   and volunteers from everywhere have pitched in and their efforts have made a huge difference.” Meals   are   still   being   served   at   the   Community   Center   shelter   but   all   people   needing   shelter   for   the   night   have found   other   lodging.      Meals   are   likely   to   be   served   through   Wednesday   and   as   many   as   300   people   have   been served   for   some   meals.   The   Community   Center   and   Fire   Department   have   been   receiving   donated   supplies   and coordinating their dispersal.  They thank everyone who made donations.   Trash   removal   to   the   Johnson   Memorial   United   Methodist   Church   parking   lot   has   facilitated   the   clean-up.      Sixty dump   truck   loads   were   deposited   today.      Local   contractors   came   with   their   equipment   including   dump   trucks, back hoes, and skid steers and donated their services as well as the use of the equipment. There    are    at    least    two    ways    to    help    out    even    if    you    live    far    away.        Two    GoFundMe    accounts    have    been established.      One   is   to   help   the Alderson   Community   Center   which   serves   as   our   emergency   shelter   and   it   can   be found   at   https://www.gofundme.com/2b8yx58      The   other   will   go   to   the   Alderson   Volunteer   Fire   Department   and the town.  It can be found at  https://www.gofundme.com/2b9usrmk   PHOTO CAPTIONS: Volunteers help clean out a basement in a flooded house.
