Founded    in    1963,    the    Greenbrier    Historical    Society    is    dedicated    to    community    enrichment    through education   and   preservation   of   the   history   and   culture   of   the   Greenbrier   Valley.   The   Greenbrier   Historical Society   is   a   regional   organization   that   serves   the   West   Virginia   counties   of   Greenbrier,   Monroe,   Summers, and Pocahontas.
Greenbrier Historical Society Victorian River Picnic at Elmhurst Join   the   Greenbrier   Historical   Society   on   October   4th   for   a   Victorian   River   Picnic   at   historic   Elmhurst   for our   Annual   Membership   Meeting.   It   will   be   a   lovely   evening   along   the   beautiful   Greenbrier   River   in Caldwell   where   you   will   enjoy   the   grounds   of   Elmhurst,   built   in   1824   and   used   as   an   inn   and   tavern   along the   original   “Midland   Trail”.   The   Greenbrier   Historical   Society   staff   invite   you   to   join   them   in   dressing   in period   Victorian   costume   (though   not   required)   and   enjoy   a   number   of   picnic   activities,   including   lawn games,   paper   crafts,   and   dancing.   Dinner   will   consist   of   traditional   picnic   fare   with   –delicious   sandwiches, cold   crunchy   fried   chicken,   salads,   fruit,   cheese,   and   lots   of   tasty   desserts!   Speaking   of   dessert,   you   have the   opportunity   to   support   future   programming   at   the   historical   society   by   bidding   in   the   pie   auction,   with lots   of   wonderful   options   which   will   ensure   you   go   home   happy!   The   historical   society   will   also   be   starting sales   of   the   long-awaited   Edward   Beyer   print   of   Lewisburg. This   will   be   your   first   chance   to   get   your   hands on   a   copy   of   this   beautiful   depiction   of   Lewisburg   in   1854.   There   will   be   a   limited   run   of   prints,   so   make sure to get yours early! Tickets   are   on   sale   now,   $35   for   general   admission,   and   $25   if   you   are   a   member   of   the   historical   society, they   can   be   purchased   online   at   www.greenbrierhistorical.org ,   or   in   person   at   the   North   House   Museum   or Greenbrier   Valley   Visitor   Center.   The   picnic   will   take   place   at   Elmhurst   in   Caldwell,   35336   Midland   Trail East and start at 6:00 PM.
