NEWS RELEASE April 30, 2018
Morgan Bunn Named History Hero Nominated   by   the   Friends   of   the   Old   Stone   Cemetery   with   support   from   the   Greenbrier   Historical   Society, Morgan   Bunn   was   recognized   as   a   West   Virginia   “History   Hero”   on   February   22,   2018   at   the   Culture Center   in   Charleston.   Each   year,   the   West   Virginia   Archives   and   History   Commission   recognizes   people from across the state for the outstanding historical work they do. In   recognizing   Bunn,   the   Commission   said,   “Morgan   Bunn   founded   the   Friends   of   the   Old   Stone   Cemetery in   2013   and   serves   as   a   restoration   expert.   She   has   led   workshops   to   teach   proper   cemetery   preservation and   restoration   techniques,   conducted   tours   of   the   cemetery   to   bring   awareness   to   the   historical   space and   the   need   to   preserve   it   as   a   piece   of   Lewisburg’s   history,   and   spoken   about   the   burial   ground   at different   events   and   meetings   in   and   around   the   community.   Bunn   also   created   a   database   of   the   people buried   in   the   cemetery   and   wrote   three   books   about   the   graveyard,   donating   proceeds   from   book   sales   to the cemetery restoration.” Since   she   was   unable   to   be   present   to   receive   the   award   in   February,   it   was   presented   to   her   on   April   27 by Greenbrier Historical Society Executive Director Annie McMillion. Bunn   said,   “I   am   so   very   honored   to   receive   this   award.   History   and   historical   preservation   are   topics   very close   to   my   heart,   and   I   feel   we   have   a   duty   to   the   past   and   to   the   people   that   came   before   us   to remember   them   and   maintain   their   memories   and   tombstones.   We   cannot   look   forward   to   the   future without   acknowledging   our   past,   and   I   hope   my   work   in   the   Old   Stone   Cemetery   honors   those   buried within it and the ways in which their lives have shaped West Virginia's history.” To   learn   more   about   cemetery   preservation   or   to   help   with   local   projects,   please   visit   the   face   book   page for Friends of the Old Stone Cemetery. https://www.facebook.com/FriendsofOldStoneCemetery/ PHOTO CAPTION: Morgan    Bunn    receives    her    “History    Hero”    award    from    Annie    McMillion,    Executive    Director    of    the Greenbrier Historical Society.
