GHS Seeks Archivist/Technician Greenbrier    Historical    Society    &    North    House    Museum    Greenbrier    Historical    Society    seeks    part-time archivist    or    archives    technician,    depending    on    qualifications    and    experience.    Prefer    candidate    with archives   training   and/or   experience   or   coursework   in   archiving   or   library   science,   although   may   consider individual   with   appropriate   skills   to   learn   on   the   job.   Attention   to   detail,   strong   computer   skills,   ability   to follow    directions,    strong    customer    service    skills,    and    strong    professional    interest    in    cataloging    and intellectual   control   of   resources   required.   Under   the   direction   of   GHS   Executive   Director,   the   incumbent   will perform the following tasks: •   Assist   in   processing   the   collection,   including   physical   arrangement   (sorting,   boxing,   labeling),   and   assist as   directed   with   all   technical   aspects   of   archival   management   including,   but   not   limited   to:   research   and interpretation   of   archives;   catalog   archival   collections;   digitize   archival   documents;   re-shelve   and   track collection materials; •   Help   identify   and   assess   the   nature   and   types   of   the   resources,   including   collections   inventory   and creation of finding aids and collection guides; •   Assist   with   essential   administrative   tasks   related   to   archives   management,   such   as   tracking   research requests,    monitoring    visiting    researchers,    and    responding    to    service    and    reference    requests    in    a consistent and courteous manner; •   Prefer   candidate   with   basic   knowledge   of   digital   library   descriptive   and   imaging   standards,   or   ability   to learn    on    the    job    and    follow    directions    to    ensure    compliance    with    national    and    international    archival standards   (ex:   DACS,   EAD,   DCRM,   and   other   archival   and   rare   materials   descriptive   and   encoding standards); •   Prefer   candidate   with   knowledge   of   digital   description   soft   wares   and/or   institutional   repositories,   such   as ArchiveSpace, ContentDM, OCLC Connection, MS office suite. •   Other   duties   as   assigned,   including   assisting   with   museum   tours,   front   desk   coverage,   and   assisting   with educational outreach.
