Memories Of Tom Dameron - Certified Aldersonian October 18, 2019
The   past   few   years   being   on   the   Finance   Committee   of Alderson   Main   Street   have   been   a   privilege   for   me. Being   a   member   of   Main   Street   and   on   this   committee   and   seeing   all   of   the   accomplishments   that dedicated   folks   like   all   of   you   have   done   is   a   testament   to   the   dedication   and   work   ethic   of   all   involved   in Main Street. I   am   especially   happy   to   have   been   closely   involved   with   the   Alumni   Park   project   and   congratulate   all   of the   people   who   believed   in   the   project   by   their   dedicated   work   and   their   financial   support.   The   Class   of 1955   was   especially   helpful   through   funding   and   actual   work   on   the   gazebo   (Ed   Moody,   who   lives   in Virginia,   brought   his   RV   to   town   and   stayed   for   almost   three   months   working   on   the   gazebo   every   day). Gary   Reed   worked   side   by   side   with   Ed   each   and   every   day.   Although   not   in   the   class   of   '55,   we   made Gary an honorary member as well as Bobby Hoover. The   Depot   project   was   a   labor   of   love. As   a   pre-teen   and   into   my   teen   years   I   was   helping   out   at   the   depot almost   every   day.   I   got   to   see   troop   trains   go   through   town   filled   with   young   soldiers   and   sailors   heading   for war   in   the   1940's.   I   was   in   the   high   school   band   when   we   played   at   the   dedication   of   the   "Alderson" Pullman   car.   I   got   to   baby   sit   "baby   chickens"   that   were   delivered   by   train   and   kept   in   the   baggage   room overnight   so   the   farmers   could   pick   them   up   in   the   morning.   Feeding   and   watering   those   "guys"   and keeping them warm via heaters was special. These   memories   are   alive   and   well   today   because   of   the   work   of   so   many   folks.   I   am   really   "Alderson Proud" of each of you and the other dedicated people who work so hard to keep our town great.
