Alderson Main Street Meeting Minutes – August 15, 2019 President, Judy Lohmeyer, called the meeting to order and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. A   copy   of   the   July   meeting   minutes   was   passed   to   everyone   and   after   a   brief   time   to   read   them,   Richard Witcher   made   a   motion   that   the   minutes   be   approved   as   written.      Ann   Eskins   offered   a   second   and   the minutes were approved. There   was   no   treasurer’s   report   available.      However,   Judy   Lohmeyer   read   a   proposal   from   Jim   Russell that   had   been   previously   approved   by   the   AMS   Finance   Committee   with   their   recommendation   that   AMS membership   approve   also.      The   proposal   is   for   Alderson   Main   Street   to   share   the   costs   in   completing   the fencing   and   railing   at   the   small   Riverfront   Park   along   West   Riverfront Avenue   adjacent   to   the   northern   end of   the   Memorial   Pedestrian   Bridge   at   a   cost   to   AMS,   not   to   exceed   $2,500.00.      After   some   discussion about   railing   previously   used   at   the   depot   being   reused   and   the   possibilities   of   a   welding   class   from Greenbrier   East   assisting   with   the   project   Doris   Kasley   made   a   motion   that   the   proposal   be   approved,   with a second from Richard Witcher.  The motion was approved. Doris   Kasley   made   an   additional   motion   that   the   Committee   should   report   back   to   AMS   at   each   regular monthly   meeting   on   the   progress   of   this   project   until   the   project   has   been   completed.     Ann   Eskins   offered   a second and the motion was approved. Judy   Lohmeyer   noted   there   is   discussion   and   interest   in   some   type   of   permanent   signage,   perhaps   an electric   sign   or   a   reader   board   type,   being   purchased   and   put   in   place.      Brief   discussion   as   to   sign   types, proper   location   to   avoid   traffic   issues   and   disruption   of   the   scenic   views   were   mentioned.      Judy   will investigate further and report back at a later date. OLD BUSINESS:   The   “Tribute   to   Bricktop”   Concert   plans   are   proceeding   with   signs   posted   noting   it   to   be   on   the   Greenbrier side   of   the   bridge   with   canopies   set   up   and   hotdogs,   chips,   desserts   and   drinks   being   available   for   sale.     Set up will begin around 4 pm with the concert set to be 6:30 – 8 pm on Sunday, August 18.   Our   3rd Annual   Community   Picnic   plans   are   well   underway   also   for   Sunday,   September   8th   from   4   –   7   pm.     The   menu   will   be   BBQ   Chicken   and   hot   dogs   with   participants   bringing   a   covered   dish   to   share   and   their own drinks and chairs.  Help is needed for set up beginning around 2:30 pm.
