Alderson Main Street Meeting Minutes May 16, 2019 Vice   President,   Bill   Ward   called   our   regularly   scheduled   meeting   to   order   and   led   us   in   the   Pledge   to   the Flag in City Hall.   The   April   meeting   minutes   were   read   by   Secretary,   Sue   Fleshman,   as   well   as   the   minutes   from   the Emergency   Executive   Board   Meeting   concerning   the   cancellation   of   the   Meet   the   Candidates   forum originally   scheduled   for   May   21,   2019.      Hearing   no   corrections   or   discussion,   Margaret   Hambrick   moved   to accept the minutes as read with Jim Bowling offering a second. The minutes were approved. The Treasurer was called away for a slight emergency, so there was no financial report for this meeting. OLD  BUSINESS: Mystik   Miller   was   present   and   reported   that   the   Strawberry   Festival   plans   are   going   well   and   she   expects 18   nonprofit   participants   and   25   vendors   to   participate.      The   musical   groups,   the   games,   parade   and activities   are   all   still   planning   to   come   forth   on   Saturday,   May   25th   for   a   big   event.      Mystik   reminded everyone   there   will   be   good   food   of   all   kinds   available,   so   all   should   come   hungry,   but   end   the   day   well satisfied. Bill    Ward    reports    the    web    page    is    moving    forward    slowly,    he    is    still    attempting    to    gather    historical information for his future postings. It   was   noted   that   the   Community   Picnic   date   has   been   changed   to   Sept.   8th   from   4   –   7   pm   and   there   is discussion   about   BBQ   chicken   for   this   year’s   main   menu.      The   Raffle   Tickets   drawing   will   be   held   at   the picnic also. NEW  BUSINESS: Barbara   Bowling   noted   the   WV   State   Flag   displayed   near   the   Visitor’s   Center   is   tattered   and   torn   and   Bill Ward will check with the Mayor to see if a new flag can be displayed in its place. Jim   Bowling   reminded   those   present   that   we   NEED   more   volunteers   to   help   staff   the   Depot,   especially   on Saturdays. Sue   Fleshman   reported   that   we   need   to   help   spread   the   word   that   brick   pavers   are   available.      The previous   company   where   bricks   were   purchased   from   no   longer   exists,   with   the   new   company   we’re   still able   to   get   the   same   good   price   of   $50.00   per   brick,   however   we   need   to   place   an   order   of   at   least   50 bricks   to   cover   the   cost   of   the   lift   gate   necessary   for   unloading   the   bricks   when   they   arrive.     There   is   a   new sign   in   place,   Bill   Ward   has   agreed   to   post   again   about   the   bricks   availability   and   Sue   plans   to   attend   the Alumni   Banquet   around   the   Fourth   to   hopefully   advertise   and   pass   out   order   forms.      We   don’t   quite   have 25 brick orders at this point. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Bill   Ward   announced   the   Monroe   County   Tourism   group   is   holding   a   meeting   on   May   21st   at   the   Sweet Springs Park with the subject being the Airbnb possibilities in that area. Jim   Bowling   announced   there   will   be   a   Poker   Run   bikers   event   beginning   at   2   pm   on   Saturday,   May   18, with a BBQ scheduled from 4 – 6 at the Visitor’s Center. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be 7:00 pm, Thursday, June 20, 2019 at City Hall. Barbara   Bowling   moved   to   adjourn   the   meeting   and   Jim   Bowling   offered   a   second.      The   meeting   was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Sue Fleshman
