Alderson Main Street Meeting Minutes April 25, 2019
President,   Judy   Lohmeyer   called   the   meeting   to   order   and   led   our   group   of   fourteen   in   the   Pledge   to   the Flag.  We met in the conference room of the Lutheran Church since Court was ongoing in City Hall. The   March   meeting   minutes   were   read   by   Secretary,   Sue   Fleshman.      After   noting   two   corrections   for clarification:   Judy   Lewallen   is   tending   the   flower   beds,   but   they   belong   to   the   town   and   the   raffle   drawing package   includes   dinner   and   breakfast   at   the   Old   Victorian   Inn,   in   addition   to   the   night’s   stay,   a   walking tour   and   some   gift   certificates,   Bill   Ward   moved   to   accept   them   as   corrected,   Barbara   Bowling   seconded and they were accepted. The   Treasurer   was   not   present,   but   a   copy   of   the   financial   report   was   passed   around   for   everyone   in attendance to see, and the copy was then filed with the minutes. OLD BUSINESS: Mystik   Miller   was   unable   to   attend   the   meeting   but   did   send   a   report   on   the   Strawberry   Festival   plans.     At this   time   the   pancake   breakfast   has   been   confirmed   along   with   15   nonprofit   participants   and   22   vendors.     The   three   musical   groups   to   perform   are   Emmalea   Deal,   Goodson   Boys   and   Black   Mountain   Bluegrass Boys.      In   addition,   there   are   plans   for   a   cornhole   tournament,   Ren   Fair   doing   unicorns,   and   several children’s   activities   such   as   a   scavenger   hunt.   There   will   be   a   small   parade   from   the   Visitor’s   Center   to Alumni   Park   to   announce   the   Good   Citizen   King   and   Queen   of   the   Straw-berry   Festival.   Mystik   is expecting more things to come in and the next meeting for the Strawberry Festival is May 4th. Bill   Ward   reports   the   web   page   is   basically   waiting.      The   finance   committee   has   approved   a   $200.00 amount   be   used   for   a   host   server   for   this   site.      Jim   Russell   made   a   motion   to   approve   this   expenditure and permit the web page to move forward.  Ann Eskins offered a second and the motion was approved. The   Good   Friday   Ribbon   Cutting   ceremony   to   welcome   Bridgewalk   Vendors   to   the   Visitor’s   Center location   along   with   their   grand   opening   was   nice   and   went   well,   they   only   needed   more   people   in attendance. The   “Meet   the   Candidates”   gathering   planned   for Tuesday,   May   21st   at   7:00   pm   in   the   Community   Center gym   is   moving   forward.      Plans   were   finalized   for   setting   up   chairs,   making   timing   signs   and   clarification that   questions   will   be   written   out   that   night   on   a   form   so   they   may   be   pre-approved   by   the   chairmen   of   the two   parties,   before   they   are   used.      Fawn   Valentine   will   be   the   moderator   for   this   event   and   invitation letters have been sent to all the candidates. Lanny   Howe   reports   that   while   the   Depot   has   been   open   most   Wednesdays   in   April,   he   hopes   to   now have   it   open   on   Saturdays   as   well.      He   still   needs   another   volunteer   or   two   and   does   have   a   training packet   ready   for   such   volunteers.      He’s   always   seeking   more   items   for   display   and   has   a   system   in   place where they can borrow items for display or will gladly receive donated items. Judy   Lewallen   reports   the   hanging   flower   baskets   will   soon   be   ready   for   pick   up   and   she   believes   they will be $50.00 again this year but will make certain of that price. NEW BUSINESS: Judy   Lohmeyer   notes   there   will   be   a   Community   Picnic   meeting   on   Tuesday,   April   30   at   7:00   pm   at   the Lutheran   Church.      The   picnic   is   scheduled   for   Sunday,   Sept.   8th   from   4   –   7   pm.         She   asked   for suggested menu changes, but got very little feedback. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on May 16th at City Hall. Hearing no more business or announcements, Bill Ward moved we adjourn the meeting. Respectifully submitted, Sue Fleshman
