Dear Alderson Merchants and Residents
The 2019 Holiday Season is fast approaching. This year, as in the past few years, Alderson Main Street
will be coordinating a series of holiday events referred to as Grand Illumination. I am writing to solicit your
assistance with the expense of planning and conducting Grand Illumination 2019, which will be known as
“Gem of the Hills Christmas.”
Here
are
some
of
the
events
that
have
been
part
of
previous
Grand
Illumination/Gem
of
the
Hills
Christmas celebrations and we expect to continue this year:
•
Christmas parade (Please enter a float or walking unit from your organization!)
•
Santa’s Village in Alumni Park
•
American Victorian Tea
•
Open house at the Alderson train station and model train show
•
“Drive under the lights” across the Memorial Bridge
Although
the
details
are
being
worked
out
as
I
write
this
letter,
we
expect
Grand
Illumination
2019
to
be
bigger
and
better
than
prior
years.
Last
year
we
added
to
Santa’s
Village
including
a
giant
train
and
installed
a
sound
and
light
show
near
the
Monroe
County
end
of
the
bridge.
This
year
a
Winter
Solstice
Celebration and a Family New Year’s Eve Celebration are planned.
The
main
goals
for
our
Grand
Illumination
activities
are
to
attract
customers
for
Alderson
businesses
and
to
enhance
the
quality
of
life
of
Alderson
residents.
Volunteers
do
a
lot
of
the
work
to
try
to
accomplish
these
goals,
but
it
still
costs
money.
We
need
your
help
to
assure
that
we
can
get
it
all
done.
