Alderson Main Street Meeting Minutes - March 21, 2019
President,   Judy   Lohmeyer   called   the   meeting   to   order   with   the   Pledge   to   the   Flag   in   the   Conference Room of the Lutheran Church because Court was ongoing in City Hall. The   February   meeting   minutes   were   read   by   Secretary,   Sue   Fleshman.   One   correction   was   noted:   Lynda Howe’s   new   business   name   is   “Bridgewalk   Vendors”   rather   than   “Howe’s   Things”.      It   was   also   noted   that town   council   has   not   officially   approved   this   venture   yet,   but   it   is   expected   to   be   approved   soon.   Then   Bill Ward   made   a   motion   to   accept   the   corrected   minutes   as   read,   Barbara   Bowling   seconded   and   the minutes were accepted. The Treasurer was not present so there was no financial report. OLD BUSINESS: Judy    Lohmeyer    reported    that    118    Corned    Beef    and    Cabbage    tickets/dinners    were    sold    with    many compliments   for   the   chef   and   when   the   bills   were   paid AMS   made   $639.99   in   profit.   Jim   Bowling   called   it to   everyone’s   attention   that   there   is   potential   money   available   to   assist   with   such   events   through   the   Fairs and   Festivals   Fund   at   the   State   level. After   brief   discussion   Barbara   Bowling   made   a   motion   that   we   name our   event   the   St.   Patrick’s   Festival   and   perhaps   next   year   we   can   add   music   and   have   some   special funding to assist with expenses. Mystik   Miller   was   unable   to   attend   the   meeting,   but   Fawn   Valentine   reported   that   there   seems   to   be   an issue   with   getting   vendors   to   participate   in   the   Strawberry   Festival   because   in   the   past   some   vendors   had too   many   competing   sales   and   did   not   make   back   their   expenses.      They   are   attempting   to   regulate vendors   this   year   so   there   will   only   be   one   vendor   selling   each   food   product,   with   a   possible   exception being   the   strawberry   shortcakes;   thus   offering   the   public   more   variety   and   participating   vendors   less competition with one another. Judy   Lewallen   got   a   private   donation   for   the   town’s   flower   beds   she   agreed   to   tend,   thus   saving AMS   that proposed expense noted at last month’s meeting.   Bill   Ward   is   moving   forward   with   the AMS   web   page   and   plans.      He   has   submitted   his   request   for   funding and now requests help with gathering some Main Street history and past projects. NEW BUSINESS: Judy   Lohmeyer   suggested   with   two   new   business   ventures   opening   up   in   April,   we   may   do   a   Ribbon Cutting   and   welcome   these   new   businesses,   perhaps   along   with   their   Grand   Opening   events.      Jim Bowling   made   a   motion   that   we   plan   to   do   this   when   the   new   businesses   are   ready   and   Fawn   Valentine offered a second.  Attending membership approved. Judy   additionally   suggested   we   have   a   good   opportunity   to   assist   with   local   people   becoming   more informed   and   involved   in   our   upcoming   local   election.      Discussion   was   positive   and   Bill   Ward   made   a motion   that   AMS   host   a   “Meet   The   Candidates”   gathering   perhaps   at   the   Community   Center   on   Tuesday evening,   May   21st   at   7:00   pm.,   pending   the   availability   of   the   facility   for   that   date   and   time.      Doris   Kasley offered a second and it was approved. Fawn Valentine will serve as moderator for this event. Once   again,   we   are   planning   to   have   a   raffle   drawing   for   a   group   of   six   people   on   October   25th   for   an overnight   stay   at   the   Old   Victorian   Inn.   This   package   will   include   dinner,   breakfast,   a   walking   tour   and some   gift   certificates.      The   tickets   are   $5.00   each   or   5   for   $20.00.      The   drawing   will   be   September   8th.     Judy Lohmeyer has tickets available and if you’re ready you can begin selling tomorrow. Doris   Kasley   suggested AMS   should   decorate   a   float   for   the   Fourth   of   July   parade.      It   was   discussed   and some   ideas   were   shared   as   to   how   we   may   do   this.      It   would   be   an      opportunity   to   showcase   some   of   the many projects AMS is involved with annually. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Ann   Eskins   shared   the   Beacon   Drop.com       web   site   address   noting   it   is   a   special   web   site   that   permits folks   to   share   what   type   of   business   they   are   wanting   in   their   area   and   as   others   see   and   support   this effort it helps link up needs with solutions. The   next   regularly   scheduled   meeting   would   be   April   18th   at   City   Hall,   however   due   to   the   holiday   and local court, the meeting should be April 25th at the Lutheran Church at 7:00 pm. Rich Lohmeyer made a motion that we adjourn the meeting. Respectfully submitted, Sue Fleshman
