Alderson Main Street Meeting Minutes January 17, 2019
President,   Jim   Russell   called   this   regularly   scheduled   meeting   to   order   with   the   Pledge   to   the   Flag   in Alderson City Hall. The   last   business   meeting   was   held   on   November   15,   2018   and   those   minutes   were   distributed   to everyone   by   Secretary,   Sue   Fleshman.     After   reading   and   hearing   no   corrections   or   additions,   Jim   Russell moved   to   accept   the   minutes   as   presented,   Bill   Ward   offered   a   second   and   the   minutes   were   accepted.     As   was   previously   agreed,   a   copy   of   these   approved   minutes   will   be   emailed   to   AMS   members   and friends. Treasurer,   Margaret   Hambrick   gave   a   full   and   detailed   financial   report   which   noted   the   current   account balance   to   be   $22,396.36.      Jim   Bowling   moved   to   accept   the   financial   report   as   presented   and   Doris Kasley    seconded    the    motion.        The    treasurer’s    report    was    accepted    and    filed    with    these    minutes.      Treasurer   Hambrick,   then   presented   the   proposed   $12,000.00   budget   for   2019.      After   brief   discussion, Doris   Kasley   moved   that   we   accept   the   proposed   budget   as   presented,   Lanny   Howe   offered   a   second   and it   was   received.   Those   present   agreed   to   send   a   copy   of   same   to   AMS   members   with   a   notation   that questions or concerns should be brought to the February meeting. OLD BUSINESS: Jim   Russell   recognized   the   slate   of   officers   for   the   2019   term   as   presented   during   the   November   meeting by   Fawn   Valentine,   chairman   of   the   Nomination   Committee.   They   are   Judy   Lohmeyer,   President;   Bill Ward,   Vice   President;   Sue   Fleshman,   Secretary;   and   Margaret   Hambrick,   Treasurer.      Doris   Kasley   moved the   slate   of   officers   be   elected   by   unanimous   vote,   Lanny   Howe   seconded   the   motion   and   the   officers   are as stated. With   that   vote,   Jim   Russell,   wearing   a   large   smile,   congratulated   the   new   President,   Judy   Lohmeyer   and reseated   himself   with   other   members.   The   transition   was   smooth   and   Judy   Lohmeyer   proceeded   with   a brief   discussion   of   the   Grand   Illumination   “Gem   of   the   Hills”   project.      Positive   comments   were   shared   and appreciation   was   extended   to   many   dedicated   workers   for   hours   given,   especially   Lynda   Howe   and   Doris Kasley.  It   was   noted   at   the   November   meeting   that   the   drains   at   the   Visitor’s   Center   needed   their   regular   cleaning of   hemlock   needles   and   that   has   now   been   tended   by   Roger   Thomas   and   crew.   Margaret   Hambrick explained   that   very   deep   snows   also   may   cause   issues   despite   the   drains   being   cleared   because   the   flat roof only enables the flashing to be so tall and very deep snows melt above that height. NEW BUSINESS: President   Lohmeyer   shared   a   list   of   projects   for   2019   with   brief   group   discussion   noted   at   various   points.     The   listing   follows   with   some   expected,   potential   dates,   which   may   change:   Corned   Beef   &   Cabbage Dinner   (Mar.   15);   Strawberry   Festival   (May   25);   Ice   Cream   Social   (July   6);   Bricktop   Music   Program   (Aug. 18);   Community   Picnic;   Raffle   Fundraiser   –   Dinner   &   Old   Victorian   Inn   Night   (Oct.   25);   Visitor’s   Center Halloween Treating (Oct. 31); Depot Train Show (Dec. 6 & 7).   Some   additional   projects   include   having   the   Visitor’s   Center   open   several   days   per   week   during   June, July,   August   and   September,   as   well   as   during   the   Farmer’s   Market   times;   considering   Volume   6   of   the History   Highlights   and   Tidbits   booklet   by   Belinda   Anderson   and   a   possible   “Mystery   Dinner”   fundraising event.      Lanny   Howe   suggested   if   we   decide   to   publish   a   volume   6   booklet,   the   C   &   O   Railway   stories   of Alderson   may   be   great   subjects.      Judy   Lewallen   and   Doris   Kasley   will   investigate   the   possibilities   and gather information about the “Mystery Dinner”. Doris   Kasley   also   noted   that   Mary   Mitchell   will   be   working   some   hours   in   the   Artisans   Gallery.   They currently   have   several   guest   artists   and   have   already   sold   more   thus   far   in   January   than   they   did   the entire   month   of   January   in   2018.      It   seems   the   Gallery   is   open   Friday   and   Saturday   most   often,   with   other days on occasion. Mystic   Miller   will   again   submit   a   proposal   to   serve   as   the   coordinator   of   the   Strawberry   Festival,   hopefully at the February meeting. With   no   additional   business,   Jim   Russell   moved   to   adjourn   the   meeting   and   Bill   Ward   offered   a   second.     Meeting was adjourned. The next regular meeting will be on Thursday, February 21st at 7:00 pm in City Hall. Respectfully submitted, Sue Fleshman
