Alderson   is   celebrating   the   Magic   of   Christmas   in   a   big   way   –   with   our   expanded   “Grand   Illumination”   and Christmas   parade!      We   are   lighting   up   the   town   on   the   first   Friday   of   December!         We’re   also   adding   a   wide range   of   fun   events   every   weekend   from   Thanksgiving   until   Christmas,   including   many   Appalachian,   West Virginia   and   Alderson   traditions   and   unique   shopping   possibilities   every   day.      Come   join   the   festivities every   weekend,   and   enjoy   the   lights   all   month   long.      There’s   a   whole   lot   of   Holiday   Magic   this   year   in Alderson! Saturday, November 26:  10 am – 6 pm  Holiday Open House  Shop   local   for   the   Holidays!   Find   unique   gift   items   at   Alderson’s,   the   BridgeWalk   Shops,   Alderson   Wolf Creek   Gallery   and   the   Alderson   Artisans   Gallery.   Dine   at   the   Big   Wheel   Restaurant,   Stuart’s   or   the Sunnyside   Café   in   the   Green   Grocer.   Wander   the   lighted   winter   wonderland   throughout   the   Historic   District and   Santa’s   Workshop   in   Alumni   Park   next   to   the   Greenbrier   River   and   the   Memorial   Bridge.   Trees   and wreaths   will   be   on   display   in   the Alderson   Visitor   Center,   and   the   Lions   Club   will   have   live   trees   for   sale   in the parking lot. Friday, December 2:  Grand Illumination   10 am   Shops of Alderson Open 5 pm     Bonfire near True Value 6 pm     Parade line-up near True Value 7 pm     Parade and Grand Illumination begins             Warming fires and hot drinks along route 8 pm     Santa and goodies at the Community Center             Drive under the lights of the Memorial Bridge (Pay What You Can Donation) Enjoy   a   magical   evening   in Alderson!   Watch   the   Queen   of   Lights   turn   on   the   Holiday   lights   all   over   town   as she   leads   the   Christmas   Parade   down   Railroad Avenue   and   across   the   Memorial   Bridge.   Stay   warm   during the   parade   with   the   warming   stations   and   free   hot   chocolate   at   the   Historic   Train   Depot   and   the   Visitor Center.   Drive   under   the   lights   of   the   bridge   after   the   parade,   shop,   and/or   visit   Santa   at   the   Community Center. Saturday, December 3:  9 am – 3 pm Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church Bazaar and Lunch Crafts,   bake   sale,   silent   auction   and   holiday   items   for   sale.   Lunch   is   soup,   sandwich,   dessert   and   a   drink for $6. 10 am – 4 pm Train Show in the basement of the Alderson Presbyterian Church 10 am – 6 pm Shops of Alderson Open Sunday, December 4:      Noon – 3 pm  Bazaar continues 1 – 4 pm Train Show in the basement of the Alderson Presbyterian Church What   is   Christmas   without   trains?   Local   train   enthusiasts   show   off   their         collections   of      various   scale   train lay-outs. Noon – 5 pm Shops of Alderson Open 1, 2:15, 3:30, 4:45 pm Christmas Tea and Tour at The Cedars $12 Donation. Tickets can be purchased at the Alderson Visitors Center & the BridgeWalk Shop The   historic   Cedars   will   welcome   guests   for   an   old   fashion   English   tea   with   music   and   a   tour   of   this beautiful home decorated for the holidays. Please purchase tickets in advance since space is limited. Friday, December 9:  10am to 8pm Shops of Alderson Open Late 5 – 8 pm Alderson Fire Department Chili Dinner & visit with Santa $5 Hot   chili   and   corn   bread   –   or   brown   beans   -   on   a   cold   winter’s   night   -   what   could   be   better?   For   the   kids there’s   hot   dogs   and   chips.   Santa   will   be   there,   and   you   can   have   photos   taken   with   him   from   6-8   pm.   Plus, there’ll   be   a   1931   Model   A   Fire   Truck   to   ride.   This   is   a   fundraiser   for   the   Alderson   Fire   Department.   Come and support our incredible first responders. 6 – 8 pm Drive under the lights on the Alderson Memorial Bridge (Pay What You Can Donation) Fridays, December 16 & 23:  10am -  8 pm  Shops of Alderson Open Late 6 – 8 pm Drive under the lights on the Alderson Memorial Bridge  (Pay What You Can Donation) Drive under the Christmas lights of the Alderson Memorial Bridge. The donation you give will help organizations in Alderson. Saturdays, December 10 & 17:  10am – 6pm  Shops of Alderson Open 1 – 3 pm  Visit with Mrs. Claus at the Gazebo (bad weather location is the Visitor Center), Hay Rides, Goodies Come   and   visit   Santaland   in Alumni   Park   next   to   the   Greenbrier   River   and   the   Memorial   Bridge.   Peek   into a   candy   factory   and   elf   workshop.   Sit   on   Santa’s   sleigh   and   have   your   picture   taken   with   Mrs   Clause.   Enjoy a hayride across the bridge. Sunday, December 11:   Noon – 5pm Shops of Alderson Open Saturday, December 17: 10am – 6pm Shops of Alderson Open 6 – 7 pm Community Sing with the Dark Hallow Ramblers at the Alderson Visitor Center Enjoy an evening with friends and some wonderful holiday goodies. Sunday, December 18:  Noon – 5pm  Shops of Alderson Open            3pm Old Greenbrier Baptist Church Cantata 1, 1:30, 2, 2:30 pm Guided Walking Tour of the Alderson Historic District $5 Donation. Tour starts at the Train Depot. Alderson   has   many   wonderful   historic   buildings   from   the   1800’s   &   1900’s.   Learn   the   history,   architecture and/or   repurposing   of   the   train   depot,   banks,   the   movie   theater,   Alderson’s   Store,   churches,   some   of   the Victorian   homes   and   more   –   while   also   enjoying   their   Holiday   Decorations.   Each   tour   will   last   about   1   hour and starts at the Alderson Train Depot.
