Alderson Main Street Minutes 2/16/2023 Sheena Pendley
1 . Don sent previous minutes via email - all approved. 2. Treasurer’s report - Margaret said that AMS spent $1383 in January, took in $848, AC system at visitor center was serviced, booklet sales were $500+ but will be on February budget. $260 in dues came in before end of January. 3. Membership Report - Don’s objective will be to recruit new members. We currently have very few business memberships. 4. Old Business A. Hanging baskets will be ready early May B. Christmas Tea Recipe book: In progress, but on hold until Doris is back and well again. Belinda is willing to do the project. Doris to provide recipes that we used for the 2022 Christmas Tea. Photos will be needed. C. Finance committee - additional member is needed. Finance committee members make recommendations to AMS if $$ is requested for a project not in the budget and review expenditures/budget each month. D. Additional Lampost Decoration - Don has discussed with Travis and shared the document with the meeting participants. Don would like feedback on this. Margaret suggested maybe fall decorations be consolidated to one theme. E. Depot door and tile - Don - still in progress F. Annual planning Calendar - provided by Don - we will add local events, including sports to the planning calendar. Margaret suggested adding community market start and end. Mary suggested adding Ronceverte River Festival, etc. Sheena suggested adding Sunflower Festival. John Henry Days is weekend after 4th of July. TOOT is first weekend of October. Literary Fest in August 4-6 G. Depot replenishment items - Don has replenished items at the Depot such as t-shirts, tour brochures, etc. H. Canopy Weights - Herbie was checking on, no update as of yet. I. Information Kiosks - at mini park and at lion sculpture - Travis is trying to locate keys for these. It’s been 2+ years ago that AMS discussed purchasing materials and GEHS would rebuild/reconstruct these kiosks. Margaret will send Don the “Riverfront Plan” document that mentions the kiosks. Margaret - Parks and Rec mentioned riverbank improvements in their grant meeting. They are supposed to do research and get back about a plan, or maybe a focus on walking paths. They are interested in improving walks along the river. J. Strawberry Festival - Sheena- update on how things are going. Gathering sponsors, discussed grants, etc. Don has brought to our attention we are trying to figure out where to put Taste of Eggcellence food trailer. 5. New Business A. Website Scrub - needs updated with new event dates. Margaret suggested maybe we drop the website since it’s another moving part. Don will table it until next meeting and see if we can get analytics of visitors to the website. We will make a final decision at next meeting. Don asked if AMS has a gmail account. B. AMS Social - Don is proposing having an AMS social gathering for all members to possibly encourage members to be more active in AMS meetings, activities, and events. Margaret proposes we send only to members, not the full email list. Don suggests maybe we have it at the old bank building - Bill Canterbury. C. Standard meetings - Oct - April 10am rotate restaurants, May - Sept 7pm Town hall or depot, Sheena mentioned evening summer/fall will be difficult for her but she will try to make work (may not be available), Fawn suggested we do a trial in May/June to see if attendance is affected at all. Marcia - mentioned canopies they ordered for AMS, in their garage now. Would like to paint Alderson Main Street onto the canopies for festivals or if we loan them out the name is on them. Canopies are blue, possible white paint. Sheena offered to assist Marcia on the project. Mary - to give feedback on lamp decorating: Maybe we do less, maybe just a few. Fawn - maybe we do Strawberry fest, 4th of July, Fall/Halloween, and Christmas. Margaret suggests we do Strawberry fest, Fall/Nov, and Christmas. Lamp post decorating has been narrowed down to: May Strawberry Festival October/Fall/November December/Christmas 6. Next Meeting: 16 March, Big Wheel 10am
