Improving The Community One Project At A Time” PO Box 117 -  Alderson W Va.  24910 Made with Xara © Alderson Main Street 2013  GREEN TEAM PLANS FAMILY ENERGY FAIR At their meeting on August 15, the Alderson Green Team began planning for several exciting activities including a Family Energy Fair to be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on October 1, 2011 at the Alderson Community  Center for Arts and Humanities.  The Family Energy Fair will include children’s activities and prizes that  emphasize the need to conserve resources including energy while also being fun.  For adults, there will be  information on how to weatherize your home; sources of financial assistance for energy projects; a draft copy of  the Community Energy Plan for review; and much more.     Recycling Chair Brian DeRouen reported that the Council of the Town of Alderson gave permission for a large  recycling bin to be placed on the property of the old Ashland Station on Riverview Avenue.  It will be open  certain hours to accept some plastics and paper items for recycling.  Once the bin is in place, more information  will be provided to the community concerning its use and time of operation. Rory McIlmoil, Downstream Strategies consultant, indicated that his presentation to the Alderson Council about  the possibility of contracting with a company to provide energy savings retrofits for several town-owned  buildings was warmly received.  He will follow up with the company and arrange a meeting with Council.   Additionally, Bill Jarvis consented to become the leader of the Green Team, stating that, “This is an extremely  important effort for Alderson and the surrounding area.  I am happy to do my part to help.” The next meeting will be on Monday, August 29, at the offices of Downstream Strategies in the Renaissance  Building in Alderson.  Everyone is welcome to attend and become part of these exciting efforts.
