GREEN TEAM PLANS FAMILY
ENERGY FAIR
At their meeting on
August 15, the Alderson Green Team began planning for several
exciting activities including a Family Energy Fair to be held
from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on October 1, 2011 at the Alderson
Community Center for Arts and Humanities. The Family Energy
Fair will include children’s activities and prizes that
emphasize the need to conserve resources including energy while
also being fun. For adults, there will be information on how to
weatherize your home; sources of financial assistance for energy
projects; a draft copy of the Community Energy Plan for review;
and much more.
Recycling Chair Brian
DeRouen reported that the Council of the Town of Alderson gave
permission for a large recycling bin to be placed on the
property of the old Ashland Station on Riverview Avenue. It
will be open certain hours to accept some plastics and paper
items for recycling. Once the bin is in place, more information
will be provided to the community concerning its use and time of
operation.
Rory McIlmoil,
Downstream Strategies consultant, indicated that his
presentation to the Alderson Council about the possibility of
contracting with a company to provide energy savings retrofits
for several town-owned buildings was warmly received. He will
follow up with the company and arrange a meeting with Council.
Additionally, Bill
Jarvis consented to become the leader of the Green Team, stating
that, “This is an extremely important effort for Alderson and
the surrounding area. I am happy to do my part to help.”
The next meeting will
be on Monday, August 29, at the offices of Downstream Strategies
in the Renaissance Building in Alderson. Everyone is welcome to
attend and become part of these exciting efforts.
