FAMILY ENERGY
FAIR PLANS RELEASED
The Family Energy Fair, which
will be held on Saturday, October 1, from 10-4 p.m. at the
Alderson Community Center for the Arts and Humanities, has an
exciting list of exhibitors which were confirmed at the meeting
of the Alderson Green Team on Monday, September 19.
Their areas of expertise range
from financing for energy retrofits to job skills in energy
savings industries. Rory McIlmoil of Downstream Strategies
said, “We hope to have a huge attendance because each of our
exhibitors will have great energy savings tips and there will be
time for fun as well.”
Those confirmed are:
Bethlehem Farm, Natural Capital Investment Fund, City National
Bank (Alderson), North Central WV Community Action Agency, WVDEP
Division of Air Quality, Saving Sunshine ( a solar energy
group), WV Environmental Council, Coalition for Reliable Power,
Downstream Strategies, Energy Efficient West Virginia,
Greenbrier Solid Waste Authority, Greenbrier Valley Economic
Development Corporation, New River Community and Technical
College, The Alderson Green Team, The Town of Alderson, and
Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity. More are expected to confirm
in the next week.
For the children, there will
be recycled art contests, a puppet show, an enviroscape
demonstration, and a bike rodeo. Alderson Green Team member Jim
Johnson said, “How about reusing bottle caps as checkers?” so
there will be an opportunity to create checker boards.
To help emphasize the large
amount of recyclable material thrown away every week, every
family is asked to bring empty milk jugs.
Thanks to the WV Community
Development Hub and the Alderson Green Team, each household will
receive a free bag with energy savings and safety devices as
long as supplies last.
Snacks and water will be
available for purchase during the event. The Alderson Green
Team is pleased to sponsor this event through a grant from the
Appalachian Regional Commission, and support from One Foundation
and other local sources. |
