Improving The Community One Project At A Time” PO Box 117 -  Alderson W Va.  24910 Made with Xara © Alderson Main Street 2013  FAMILY ENERGY FAIR PLANS RELEASED The Family Energy Fair, which will be held on Saturday, October 1, from 10-4 p.m. at the Alderson Community  Center for the Arts and Humanities, has an exciting list of exhibitors which were confirmed at the meeting of the  Alderson Green Team on Monday, September 19.   Their areas of expertise range from financing for energy retrofits to job skills in energy savings industries.  Rory  McIlmoil of Downstream Strategies said, “We hope to have a huge attendance because each of our exhibitors  will have great energy savings tips and there will be time for fun as well.”   Those confirmed are:  Bethlehem Farm, Natural Capital Investment Fund, City National Bank (Alderson), North  Central WV Community Action Agency, WVDEP Division of Air Quality, Saving Sunshine ( a solar energy group),  WV Environmental Council, Coalition for Reliable Power, Downstream Strategies, Energy Efficient West Virginia,  Greenbrier Solid Waste Authority, Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Corporation, New River Community  and Technical College, The Alderson Green Team, The Town of Alderson, and Almost Heaven Habitat for  Humanity. More are expected to confirm in the next week.   For the children, there will be recycled art contests, a puppet show, an enviroscape demonstration, and a bike  rodeo.  Alderson Green Team member Jim Johnson said, “How about reusing bottle caps as checkers?” so there  will be an opportunity to create checker boards. To help emphasize the large amount of recyclable material thrown away every week, every family is asked to  bring empty milk jugs.     Thanks to the WV Community Development Hub and the Alderson Green Team, each household will receive a  free bag with energy savings and safety devices as long as supplies last. Snacks and water will be available for purchase during the event.  The Alderson Green Team is pleased to  sponsor this event through a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission, and support from One  Foundation and other local sources.
