ENERGY SAVINGS
KITS TO BE GIVEN AWAY
Energy savings and safety kits will be given away
at the Family Energy Fair, which will be held on Saturday,
October 1, from 10-4 p.m. at the Alderson Community Center for
the Arts and Humanities. Everyone from throughout
West Virginia
is invited to attend.
Thanks to the WV Community Development Hub and
the Alderson Green Team, each household in attendance will
receive a free bag containing energy savings and safety devices
as long as supplies last.
Rory McIlmoil with Downstream Strategies said,
“As the weather gets cooler, everyone is trying to think of ways
to save on energy costs through the winter. We are sure that
both the kits and the information available at the Family Energy
Fair will help families do just that.”
Each bag should contain two CFL light bulbs which
are four times more efficient than incandescent bulbs; outlet
and switch plate insulators which seal out cold air; an LED
nightlight; child safety caps for outlets; a refrigerator
thermometer which will help monitor refrigerator temperatures to
prevent energy waste; an indoor window insulating kit; faucet
aerators which help reduce the amount of water coming through
the tap so you use less; colored dye tablets for use in checking
toilets for leaks; and a pamphlet of tips for saving energy and
money at home.
These items are only a start toward energy
savings. Much more information will be available from the
exhibitors at the Family Energy Fair. There will be games for
children as well as snacks and water for sale.
Each family is asked to bring empty milk jugs,
which will later be recycled, as an example of how much
recyclable material is thrown away every week.
The Alderson Green Team thanks the Alderson
Community Center for the Arts and Humanities for providing the
space for this event. |
