ALDERSON GREETS NEW BUSINESS

There is excitement building for the opening of Jane’s Primitives and Gifts on December 2 in the Renaissance Building on Riverview Avenue in Alderson. (north end of the bridge) The hours are planned to be Thursday-Saturday from 10-6; Sunday from 1-5; and other hours by chance.

The windows of this very attractive shop hint at the wonderful items within. They include hand made candles, potpourri, Christmas ornaments, and even furniture. Co-owners Jane Bennett and Peggy Elkins are best friends who have been crafting together for years. Elkins said, “We have been talking about opening a shop for ages and when this space came available, the time seemed right.”

One of the most interesting items is a bench made from a door with patchwork attached to the back of the door and showing though the panes. The chairs they offer have backs and seats woven from home spun fabric. They even hand craft artificial Christmas trees and offer them decorated or undecorated.

They also plan to have a section with ornaments, wreaths, and other decorative items for a Victorian decorating scheme.

Bennett and Elkins are community minded and are supporting the Christmas Homes Tour on December 4 from 1-5, sponsored by Alderson Main Street, by decorating the stair hall of one of the homes on tour. They are also are planning an open house on December 3 and 4 to welcome the community and visitors to their new shop.

Judy Lewallen, President of Alderson Main Street, said, “We are so pleased to welcome Jane’s Primitives and Gifts to Alderson. They are in an extremely visible location near the Greenbrier side of the Alderson Memorial Bridge. Everyone who passes by is already enjoying their beautiful window displays.”
