Improving The Community One Project At A Time” PO Box 117 -  Alderson W Va.  24910 © Alderson Main Street 2014 Hello Alderson Main Street Members and Friends, The Town of Alderson has applied for two grants from the Greenbrier County Commission Hotel/Motel Tax fund  through the Greenbrier County Arts and Rec Committee.  While the members of the County Commission (Karen  Lobban, Mike McClung, and Woody Hanna) make the final decision, they consider the recommendations of the Arts  and Rec Committee.  Organizations which requested grants have been offered the opportunity to make a 2 minute presentation in front of  the A&R Committee on Thursday, April 10, starting at 5:00 p.m. It will be at the Greenbrier County Courthouse at 200 N Court Street in Lewisburg, WV . It is a big help if large numbers of the community show up to support their  requests.  It is a "first come, first served" process so we hope to have a representative there to sign us up for an  early slot--especially since Town Council meets later that evening. Alderson has requested $40,000 to help finish up the match for a $360,000 Transportation grant we received 3 years ago.  This money will go toward the repairs of the understructure of the Alderson Memorial Bridge.  This is less than  half of the $90,000 match required to counter previous complaints that half of the bridge is in Monroe County.  We  only asked for $20,000 in each of the past 2 years to make it easier on the A&R budget, but were denied each time.   Now we need the full $40,000 to move ahead.  Tod Hanger will make the actual presentation. Alderson also requested $16,241 for repairs, debris removal, and new shelters at the Alderson Municipal Park.  The  park receives hard use, especially during league seasons, and is in need of repairs. The Alderson Municipal Park  Commission, with help from some others, developed the list of needs which this grant addresses.  Chad McCallister,  President of the Park commission, will make the actual presentation.  The more 'friends' of and from Alderson who show up, the more the A&R Committee will understand how important  these allocations would be to our area.  Please come and show your support!  And ask all YOUR friends who may  not be on this e-mail list to come and show their support.  Feel free to forward this e-mail.
