ALDERSON MAIN STREET GREETS AMERICORPS MEMBER
Amy Truesdale, pictured right, an AmeriCorps member sponsored by High
Rocks Educational Corporation, is joining Alderson Main Street (AMS) for the
coming year. She has been warmly welcomed by AMS members and will be
meeting with more as well as meeting members of the many other community
organizations as she gets around the town.
Among her duties will be improving AMS’s volunteer/membership base;
maintaining a schedule for visitor information at the Greenbrier River Interpretive
Center (GRIC); developing exhibits and educational programs; coordinating a
community calendar and a facebook page; working with the business
community to encourage more customers and businesses; and many others.
Truesdale said, “Alderson is a beautiful and historic town and I am happy to be a part of its continued growth. I am
very excited to take on these new projects.”
Truesdale comes to the job with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management from Malone University
in Canton, Ohio and local experience with Carnegie Hall and the Greenbrier Housing Authority. She worked in the
sign making industry before coming to the Greenbrier Valley.
Doris Kasley, pictured left, AMS member who will be working directly with Truesdale, said, “We are very excited to
have Amy working in the community to enhance AMS’s goal of economic development.”
Truesdale will have an office in the GRIC with soon to be established office hours. Please stop in to say hello and
find out how you can work with her and AMS to improve Alderson.
UPDATE: 11.14.13
Hello Main Street Members and Friends,
Wow! There is so much happening right now which involves Alderson Main Street. Our Americorps Member, Amy
Truesdale, has hit the ground running and is not looking back. It is all us old fogies can do to keep up. Huge
thanks to Doris Kasley, one more time, for stepping up to be her 'official' supervisor and allowing us to have her. I
think Doris is finding her more like a partner and they are both doing great work.
Amy was introduced at Alderson Council meeting last night and there was a lot of discussion about the Christmas
Activities planned for December 6, 7, and 8 in Alderson. AMS President Betty Thomas, who is also Town
Recorder, helped give her a warm welcome.
We have this and much more to discuss at our next meeting. Please come and learn about our new event
calendar on our web page (thanks for the help, Barry) and our new facebook page among other things.
Remember we are in a new membership year starting with November. Membership is $15 and necessary for
voting privileges. Everyone is welcome to come to the meetings and provide input! So, bring your friends and
neighbors and join us.
