Improving The Community One Project At A Time” PO Box 117 -  Alderson W Va.  24910 Made with Xara © Alderson Main Street 2013 VOTE FOR ALDERSON’S FOURTH Date:  June 11, 2012 For Immediate Release  Contact:  Margaret Hambrick  304-445-7242  WVLiving Magazine is running a contest on their web site to determine, by electronic vote, which town in West  Virginia has the best fireworks and July4th celebration.  Alderson is one of the 5 candidates.  Voting takes place  at www.wvliving.com   Some technical glitches have resulted in a change in the voting system.  Only one vote per day per e-mail  address will now be counted.  The results will be posted each Friday on the Facebook page at  http://www.facebook.com/wvliving.   Nikki Bowman, editor of WV Living said, “One of the best things about a West Virginia summer is the Fourth of  July Celebrations all across the state.  We wanted to see which one our readers thought was the best so we  developed this contest.” The Alderson Volunteer Fire Department produces the fireworks display each year for the July 4th Celebration.   They put in hours of work to safely handle so much explosive power.  One of the most difficult parts is building  the ground displays.  The letters and images are first constructed out of wood and then the fireworks are added.  This is the 51st year for Alderson’s July 4th Celebration which will last from June 28 to July 5, 2012.  This year  the theme is “Star Spangled Fun in Alderson”.  More information about the celebration can be found at  www.alderson4th.com.                                                                                                          Main Street President Judy Lewallen said, “This is not just about the 4th.  It is also about what a great little town  Alderson is.  Alderson Main Street members have been campaigning hard for Alderson to win.” One of the special events that keeps former residents coming back year after year is the Community  Homecoming Banquet for those who attended or graduated from Alderson High School and Greenbrier East High  School.  Chris Lewallen, former Alderson resident and former Student Government President at WVU said, “Over the  decades we have lost our schools due to consolidation, but one thing we haven't lost is our pride. Please join us  in helping to show that the heart and great traditions of Appalachia start, and are never forgotten, in rural small  towns across West Virginia.”  He concluded, “Vote for Alderson as your favorite 4th of July celebration. A town  with only 1,000 citizens which puts on a show for the entire Mountain State deserves this honor.”    The contest ends at midnight on Thursday, July 5th.  The winning town will be featured in the Summer, 2013  edition of WVLiving.
