HAPPENINGS IN ALDERSON |
The Town of Alderson is
gearing up for a celebration of the Christmas Season! In addition
to the Annual Christmas Parade on Friday, December 4, beginning at
6:30 p.m., there will be a myriad of events on Sunday, December 6.
Mayor Luther Lewallen said, “We have a lot of people working on
decorations throughout the town. Our old Victorian structures look
so good with Christmas lights. I am eager to see it when the
decorating is finished. We invite everyone to visit Alderson
during these events.”
Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church will be having their
annual bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, and Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.
They will have white elephant items, bake sale items, and crafts
for sale both days. On Saturday, they will have a silent auction.
The hours of the bazaar on Saturday are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..
The hours of the bazaar on Sunday are 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.. A
lunch consisting of soup, sandwich, desert, and drink for $5.00
will be served from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and
from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Additionally, a
well-known local choir will be performing in the church sanctuary
on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
There will be a model train show in the Historic 1896 C&O Depot on
Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The show will
feature a new HO scale model train layout created by the father
and son team of Rick and Zackary Burns. Lee Skaggs will have a
winter scene O scale model train layout on display. Tod Hanger,
representing the C & O Historical Society, will have a display and
items for sale by the C & O Historical Society. There will be
railroad themed holiday decorations throughout the depot and
refreshments will be served. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for
children 12 and under.
Santa's Holiday Express train which is a G scale model train will
be operating at Alderson's Store from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Alderson's Store will be open for business during those hours with
a special one-day-only discount for train show attendees. Wolf
Creek Gallery will also be open from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on
Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009.
For the second year in a row, visitors can “drive under the
lights” as the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department opens the
Alderson Memorial Bridge to vehicular traffic from 5:00 p.m. until
7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009. The charge to drive across the
bridge will be $5.00 per vehicle. These proceeds will be divided
between the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department and the Alderson
Bridge Trust Fund.
Mayor Lewallen said, “I intend to enjoy each of these activities
and hope everyone else will.”
