President Margaret Hambrick called the meeting to order at 7:03
PM.
Minutes were handed out prior to the meeting and read by members.
Motion was made by Tom Dameron that the minutes be approved; 2nd
by Barbara Taylor. Motioned carried to approve minutes.
OLD
BUSINESS:
Treasurer’s report was read by Dana Pack. A copy is available at
request. Reminder: Please remember dues are due for the new
year.
FLOWER FESTIVAL:
The Flower festival this year was not as
large as expected. Approximately 12 vendors did not show up. A
suggestion was made that if we continue the Spring Flower
festival, that we collected the $10.00 set up fee in advance.
Maybe this would help to keep vendors from dropping out at the
last minute. A short discussion was held on whether to continue
the Flower Festival or look for something else to do in the
spring. We will continue to think about this and make a decision
no later than the November meeting, since advertising grants would
need to be applied for in December prior to whatever the spring
theme may be.
GRIC:
Good and better news. Contracts are signed.
Work on the outside is to begin soon. We should soon see
sidewalks, paving of parking area and landscaping. We are
expecting this part to be completed prior to the 4th of
July celebration. We should soon be able to take bids for the
interior. There is stimulus money that should be coming down the
line. Requests are due in late June. We will have to have the
match up front. We may need to borrow from the money we already
have?
Town
Flag:
Margaret had a sample of the flags at our meeting. Looks like the
cost will be $44.00 for 3X5 with grommets and $25.00 for 2X3 with
sleeve. Joyce Mott made the motion to order the flags at that
price and Barbara Taylor seconded the motion. Motion carried. We
should have flags to be on sale at the 4th of July
celebration and before.
Alumni Park:
Approximately 50 bricks have been ordered
and will be in place prior to the 4th of July. Flag
poles will be installed soon and we are expecting to have a
ceremony at Alumni Park to raise the town flag and American Flag
that has been donated by the VFW. We are looking for volunteers
to help paint the Gazebo.
Green building:
Our $750.00 check is being return. The
town will pick up the insurance and pay the lease on the
building. The Civil War sign is in process.
Grant Money:
There is stimulus money out there. We
will keep looking to see where we can obtain other money.
Flower Baskets:
The flower baskets are ready and Judy will
be picking up and placing this week. We need donations to pay for
the baskets.
