7:00 PM - City Hall
President
Margaret Hambrick called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
Minutes were handed out prior to the meeting and read by
members. Motion was made by Tom Dameron that minutes be
approved as written and seconded by Betty Smith.
OLD BUSINESS:
The treasurer’s report was read by Margaret in the absence of
Dana.
GRIC - Things are progressing with the center. Bids were
received for the exterior doors and windows-- $32,000.00. This
base bid was accepted. Bids for the garage doors and bath room
doors were accepted but delayed and the bids will be good thru
June. A little bad news, the $48,000.00 match was sent in
however the balance of the money is not available. We are
looking at possibly May. The Feds have not released the funds.
Town Flag: No progress
Alderson Alumni Park: The first order for bricks is being sent
in on March 1. Of course sales will continue, and each time an
order is placed at least 100 bricks will need to be ordered.
(This is the minimum to make it cost effective). We had a one
year commitment on the price and this ends in May. With a turn
in the weather we should start to see some additional
progress. (benches and landscaping)
Flags on new bridge: No change
Green building: Paperwork is in and the fee had been paid.
Martha’s Garden: No progress
Christmas Homes Tours: Visitors were down from previous years,
we believe due to the rainy weather. We have 3 good prospects
for December 2008. It was suggested that this year instead of
making a donation to the Women’s Club for providing
refreshments that we place a brick in the walk at Alderson
Alumni Park. Motion was made by Jim Herod and seconded by
Francis Simmons.
Flower Festival & Antique Fair: Grant was written for
advertising money and received. The festival is scheduled for
May 17th. This year there will be a $10.00 set up fee for
vendors.
Depot: The transportation grant has been written to do the
improvements needed on the Depot. (Roof and exterior)
NEW BUSINESS:
Katie Ickes, Exec Director, Chamber of Commerce will talk to
us next month.
Small jobs that need to get done:
Flower beds on Monroe side: Judy Lewallen and Frances Simmons
Flower bed near Thrift Shop: Charles and Glenna Mulkey
Triangles: Will write the State Road ( Margaret)
Paint posts on Welcome Signs: Margaret Hambrick
Keep kiosks seasonal: Bobby and Judy Hoover
Water Flower baskets: Judy Lewallen
The rest of the evening was spent reviewing our long range
plans. Margaret will provide the members with our suggestions
and we will follow through with action steps at our next
meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45.
