Alderson Main Street Welcomes Americorps Member
The members and friends of Alderson Main Street welcomed their new Americorps Member, Lynda Howe, at their
regular monthly meeting on March 20, 2014.
Howe has an excellent background in marketing and sales and has worked locally for Trillium Performing Arts and
Carnegie Hall in the areas of lighting and stage management. Her experience as a seasonal Park Ranger at the
Appomattox Court House National Historic Park included developing educational programs and training volunteers.
Howe said, “I am really hoping I can energize, coordinate, and create a lot of great activities for all ages this summer.
I just love being able to do this.”
Among her duties will be improving AMS’s volunteer/membership base; maintaining a schedule for visitor information
at the Greenbrier River Interpretive Center (GRIC); developing exhibits and educational programs; coordinating a
community calendar and a face book page; working with the business community to encourage more customers and
businesses; and many others.
Howe has already developed a schedule for monthly exhibits featuring local artists at the GRIC and is working on a
series of musical and educational events for the summer. She has met with many other local organizations to
coordinate their activities and will meet with many more. Beginning the middle of May, she will have regular hours at
the GRIC, which is located on Riverview Avenue in Alderson, on Thursdays and Fridays from 11-4 and Saturdays
Already, visitors can tell when she is present at the GRIC because of the colorful sign, which she designed and
crafted, and which announces that the Visitor’s Center is open. More information about schedules and events can be
found on the Alderson Main Street face book page or the web site at http://www.min7th.com/ams/
Doris Kasley, Alderson Main Street Member and her immediate supervisor, said, “You can just feel the energy
developing. I hope everyone will stop by and meet Lynda and attend all the events we are planning.”
