DRIVE UNDER THE BRIDGE LIGHTS
For one very special evening, the Alderson Memorial Bridge will be open to allow vehicles to drive under the
Christmas lights which span the bridge. On Friday, December 13, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., the bridge
will be open to traffic as a fund-raiser for the Alderson Elementary School Universal Pre-school program.
Donations will be gratefully accepted. Traffic will be one-way starting on the Greenbrier County side of the bridge.
Santa will be waiting at the Alderson Alumni Park Gazebo on the Monroe County side to visit with any children who
would like to see him. Cookies and other baked goods will be available for sale. Cody Carpenter, member of the
pre-school class, said, “I want snow!”
Kelly Keadle Carpenter, Cody’s mom and Council Member of the Town of Alderson, said, “I remember how excited
I was as a kid when my parents drove me under the lights. This is a great opportunity for adults to re-live their
childhood and to create some wonderful memories for their children.”
The Alderson Elementary School Universal Pre-school program is raising money for field trips this school year.
Their destinations depend on how much money is raised since they must pay the cost of the busses for transport
as well as admission fees.
Courtney Creasman Jesser, parent president, said, “We really appreciate the Town of Alderson allowing us to use
the Alderson Memorial Bridge for this fund-raiser It shows that they recognize the importance of the education of
the children in our town through enriching their curriculum.”
This will be the only time this Christmas Season that the Alderson Memorial Bridge will
be open for regular vehicular traffic, so the pre-school students invite everyone to come
and enjoy this treat and help them raise money for their field trips.
