RAW EMOTIONS
Richard Hughs

THE FALL OF 1959 THE ALDERSON FOOTBALL TEAM DROVE TO CREIGHTON WEST VIRGINIA TO PLAY OUR FIRST FOOTBALL GAME. I WAS A SOPHOMORE. WHEN WE GOT TO THE DRESSING ROOM WE WALKED OR PASSED THROUGH THE CREIGHTON TEAM. AS WE WENT THROUGH THE CREIGHTON TEAM MILLARD FLEMING WAS YELLOWING PIGS TO THE SLAUGHTER , WE ARE GOING TO RIP YOUR NOSE OUT, YOU BOYS ARE DEAD.

I THOUGHT  ABOUT MILLARD AND SOMEHOW MISTAKENLY BELIEVED HIS TEAM NEEDED TO GO UNDEFEATED AND  WIN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP  FOR HIM TO GET THE RECOGNITION AND SCHOLARSHIP TO AVOID A VERY ROUGH LIFE . ALDERSON , WON THAT HARD-FOUGHT GAME 13 TO 6  AFTER THE GAME I FELT CONSCIENCE AS I HEARD MILLARD CRYING, BAWLING, IN A  POWERFUL LOUD WAILING VOICE ,OH GOD FORGIVE ME ,OH SAVE  ME , OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE, OH HOW AWFUL, OH HOW TERRIBLE. MILLARD WAS ACTUALLY SHOWING WHAT A GREAT DEEPLY FELT EMOTIONS HE HAD. I HAVE OFTEN WONDERED IF HE THOUGHT WHAT I WAS THINKING, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MILLARD SOMETIME ,TO SEE IF HE REMEMBERS THAT GAME , AND TO SEE IF MAYBE ,I WAS RIGHT OR WRONG .
