Alderson Collegiate
Institute (ACI) buildings were completed in 1889 and the grade and
high school opened under the aegis of the Methodist in southern West
Virginia. It was a highly respected school in the 1890s and the
early years of the 1900s, open to all despite its denominational
support. Only the old boarding house (right) still remains. Photo J.
