Rebecca Jane Fleshman Lineberry -Obituary

August 27, 1924 - April 26, 2020

Rebecca Jane Fleshman Lineberry, age 95, of Alderson, WV, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Autumn Way Assisted Living in Rupert, WV following a long illness.

Born August 27, 1924 in Blue Sulphur Springs, WV, she was the daughter of the late Lewis A. Fleshman, Sr. and the late Garnett Cook Fleshman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph R. Lineberry in 1982; three brothers, Lewis Fleshman, Jr., Lee Fleshman and Otho Fleshman; two sisters, Virginia Diehl and Roberta McClung; and special cousin, Elizabeth "Humpy" Meece.

Rebecca was the matriarch of the Fleshman family and the one who everyone kept up with, no matter how far away they were. Her friends and family knew that she always told the best stories.

She had a wonderful memory and her stories spanned a long life well-lived, ranging from a one-room schoolhouse in a West Virginia hollow, to the busy streets of Baltimore and the sunny beaches of California. Rebecca loved her country, and she was very proud of her and Joe's service during World War II. Joe served in Europe and received a Purple Heart, while Rebecca was a "Rosie the Riveter" and worked for the Department of Defense. Asked in 2017 about that time, she said "There were hardships but we were young, we were proud to be doing what we could to try and bring our boys home. But, the hardships weren’t nearly as strong as our faith and our God." Rebecca was a member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson, WV and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson, WV. She donated the Blue Sulphur Springs pavilion to the Greenbrier Historical Society in 2013 and one of her fondest wishes was to see it restored and enjoyed by the people of Greenbrier County. Rebecca will be missed by her family that she loved so much. She will always be remembered for saying "tell my family, I love them".

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Lineberry Bolt of Blue Sulphur Springs, WV; a granddaughter, Hannah Bolt of Columbus, OH; her brother, James G. Fleshman and his wife, Joan, of Alderson, WV; many special nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends across the country.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines will be observed. Private graveside services and burial will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Old Greenbrier Memorial Cemetery in Alderson, WV with the Rev. Sam Groves officiating.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
