Edwina Highlander Fraser - Obituary

November 5, 1935 - September 4, 2020

Edwina Highlander Fraser, age 84, of Alderson, W.Va., formerly of Washington, D.C., Albany, N.Y., Norfolk, Va., Framingham, Mass., Morgantown, W.Va., Anniston, Ala., Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Atlanta, Ga., and Miami, Fla., passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020 at her home in Alderson, W.Va., following a short illness.

Born November 5, 1935 in Meade, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edwin Lynch Highlander and the late Maude Ella Baker Highlander. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Theodore Coleman "Ted" Highlander.

Ms. Fraser was a retired bookkeeper having worked for the United States Government and for various businesses in the public and private sector throughout the United States, retiring after many years of service.

 She was a 1954 graduate of Alderson High School in Alderson, W.Va. and was a member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson, W.Va., where she was a member of the choir and served as pianist and organist for many years. Ms. Fraser loved music and taught music for many years. She also loved gardening and enjoyed flea markets and thrift shops. She will always be remembered for her love of laughter and the ability to make people laugh, but above all, Ms. Fraser cherished being a mother and loved her family and friends.

Survivors include her son, Joseph Gebron and his wife, Alexix, of Allisonia, Va.; two sisters, Anna Virginia Adkins and her husband, Ray, of Liberty, Mo., and Brenda Flanagan of Rainelle, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Robbie Buckland and his wife, Tracy, of Waiteville, W.Va., Katelyn Pursel of Vero Beach, Fla., and Jade Yates of Wilmington, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Kyra Moreno and Kaeden Walker, both of Vero Beach, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; adopted son, Mickey Guinn and his wife, Wanda, of Bonners Pass, Idaho; and treasured friends, Valerie Parker, Lois McVey, Ross Copenhaver, and Kathy Arbaugh all of Alderson, W.Va.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines will be observed, with mask and social distancing encouraged.

Graveside services and burial will be Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alderson Cemetery in Alderson, W.Va., with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Kanode and the Rev. Sam Groves officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson, W.Va.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
