Anne W. Smith, 93 - Obituary

February 20, 1927 -November 20, 2020

Anne was born in Chesapeake, MD on February 20, 1927, to Ukrainian immigrants Paul and Lena Wasylczuk. She was a long time resident of Alderson where she was affectionately known as ‘Miss Annie.’ She was very active in the Alderson community, was a founding member of St. Mary’s on the Greenbrier Catholic Church and a member of the Alderson VFW Lady’s auxiliary, Woman’s Club, and the Library Board of Directors, and former library board chair. Anne retired from the Alderson public schools where she enjoyed serving several generations of kids as a cafeteria cook. She was a voracious reader and puzzle solver and was well known in the community for her daily walks with her walking buddies that continued into her late 80’s. She was blessed with good health until recently, and attributed that to her hobbies. There is a sign on her wall given to her by a family friend that says “Some people make the world brighter just by being in it.” All who knew Miss Annie would agree this is a perfect summary of her life.
