Ruth
“Norene” Walthall Pence,
age 91, of Alderson, WV,
passed away Friday,
February 21, 2020 at
Peyton Hospice House in
Fairlea, WV following a
long illness. Born
November 27, 1928 at
Fort Springs, WV, she
was the daughter of the
late Masil Glenn
Walthall and Erma Laura
McCallister Walthall.
Mrs. Pence formerly
worked for Coleman
Pharmacies in Alderson
and Lewisburg, WV. She
was a member of the
Broad Run Baptist Church
in Wolf Creek, WV, where
she served as an adult
Sunday school teacher
for several years. Mrs.
Pence was an avid
gardener, enjoyed
studying family
genealogy and American
history, and loved
spending time with
family and friends. |

In addition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband
of 62 years, Harold Ovil Pence;
three sisters, Doris Lilly, Anna
Smith, and Lois Roles. Survivors
include one son, Boyd Pence and wife
Becky of Alderson, WV; one daughter,
Rita Ritacco and husband Gerry of
Charlotte Court House, VA; one
sister, Faye Hancock of Union, WV;
three grandchildren, Kristy Sager of
Fredericksburg, VA, Kenneth Pence of
Alderson, WV, and Nick Ritacco and
wife Jocelyn of Chardon, OH; six
great-grandchildren and many nieces,
nephews, and cousins; also surviving
are special friends Louise Utterback
and Gail Ball.
Funeral services will be held 2:00
p.m. Monday, February 24, 2020 at
the Groves-Mann Funeral Home in
Union, WV with Rev. Bob Ratliff and
Rev. Gary Baker officiating. Burial
will follow in the Old Greenbrier
Memorial Cemetery in Alderson, WV.
Family and friends will serve as
Pallbearers. The Family will receive
friends Sunday, February 23, 2020
from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the
funeral home. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests donations to the
Broad Run Baptist Church in Wolf
Creek, WV or to the Peyton Hospice
House 1265 Maplewood Ave. Lewisburg,
WV 24901. The family would like to
