Shirley M. "Buck" Phillips of Christiansburg, Va.,
formerly of Alderson, W.Va. and Richmond, Ind., died peacefully with
his family around him on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
He was born February 5, 1931 near Alderson, W.Va. and
attended Alderson Schools. His parents, Ralph M. and Helen C.
Phillips preceded him in death and also his sister, Opal Phillips
Welder.
Mr. Phillips was a 39 year retired employee of the CSX Railway
System. At his retirement in 1990 he and his wife relocated to
Christiansburg, Va.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda Weeks Phillips; his
daughter, Linda Carolyn Ghearing and husband, Rodney E. Ghearing, of
Atwater, Calif.; his son, Charles Andrew Phillips and wife, Connie
Brown Phillips, of Hagerstown, Ind.; four grandchildren, Danielle
Phillips Dalton of Fishers, Ind., Jason Andrew Phillips of Clover,
S.C. and wife, Lisa Phillips, Nicholas Alexander Ghearing of Grand
Junction, Colo. and wife, Allison Ghearing, and Victoria Elizabeth
Crumb of Brooktondale, N.Y.; and four great- grandchildren. Also
surviving are brother, Sterling R. Phillips and wife, Norma, of
Saltville, Va., brother, Riley M. Phillips and wife, Lora, of
Christiansburg, Va., brother, David B. Phillips and wife, Janet, of
Punxsutawney, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Friday, July 6, 2012 from 6:00 p.m.
to 8:00 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren, Christiansburg, Va.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the
Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, W.Va. with the Rev. Donald
Peters officiating. Burial will follow at the Fletcher Addition of
the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson, W.Va. Friends and family may call
on Saturday, July 7, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lobban
Funeral Home, Alderson, W.Va.
