ALDERSON — Joyce Elizabeth Wenger Sheppard Noble, age 75, of Alderson, died, Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, W.Va., following a sudden illness.

Born Dec. 20, 1933, at Alderson, she was the daughter of the late Lynn Clark and Ethel Morgan Wenger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl C. Sheppard; a son, Carlos Sheppard; a brother, Alvin C. Wenger; and a sister, Onva Lee Wenger Pierce.

Mrs. Noble was the former owner of the Sears Roebuck Store in Alderson and retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Alderson, after 20 years of service. She was a 1952 graduate of Alderson High School and a member of the Alderson Church of the Nazarene, Muddy Creek Mountain, Alderson. Mrs. Noble was a former member of the Alderson City Council, a member of the Alderson Lions Club, The Woman’s Club of Alderson, the Muddy Creek Mountain Ruritan Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson.

Survivors include her husband, James Fred Noble of Alderson; a son, Calvin Sheppard and his wife, Vivian, of Alderson; two stepsons, Randy Noble and his wife, Teresa, of Ashland, Ky., and Terry D. Noble of Hinton; two stepdaughters, Betty Lou Hall and her husband, Don, of Boone Mills, Va., and Julie Noble Parker and her husband, Joe, of Texarkana, Texas; a brother, Bobby Wenger and his wife, Lisa, of Hawkins, Texas; two sisters, Lena Wenger of Beckley and Rymal Kenton and her husband, Herb, of Milford, Del.; two aunts, Della Chase of Kensington, Md., and Allyne Rowland of Arlington, Va.; a brother-in-law, Robert Pierce of Culloden; four grandchildren, Tre Sheppard and his wife, Crystal, of Alderson, Blake Sheppard of Alderson, Ashley Sheppard of Alderson, and Morgan Sheppard, of Ennis, Texas; three great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren, Andrea McQuire of Lexington, Ky., Brandon Noble of Lexington, Ky., Jeremy Noble of Ashland, Ky., Lt. Peyton Parker of Fort Lewis, Wash., Katelyn Parker of Texarkana, Texas, Donna, David, Barbara, and Beverly all of Roanoke, Va., Gerald, Charmaine, Sharon, and Pico; a step-great-grandson; special friends, June Ames of Hinton and Mary Ellen Reese of Alderson; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009, at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with the Rev. Ed Midcap officiating. Burial will follow in the Fletcher Addition of the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson.

Grandchildren and step-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Alderson Lions Club and the Muddy Creek Mountain Ruritan Club.

In lieu of flowers, contributions of sympathy may be made to the Alderson Nazarene Ladies Fellowship, Rt. 1 Box 235A, Alderson, WV 24910.
