BRICK PURCHASES FOR THIS YEAR MUST BE IN BY MARCH 1, 2008! TIME IS RUNNING OUT.

As most of you know the gazebo in Alumni Park is essentially complete. A few things remain to be completed such as brick planters, painting some of the treated lumber, and installation of lattice around the base of the structure. These items will be completed this Spring (2008).

During 2007 we installed a concrete base for the sidewalk into the park known as Community Walk. During the last nine months or so the "Buy a Brick, Build a Park" drive was initiated and to date over 150 bricks have been sold. The order for these bricks will be delivered on March 1, 2008 and we expect to have the bricks in place by May 1, 2008.

The bricks for the Community Walk inscribed with names of citizens of Alderson, friends of Alderson, families of Alderson will stand as a monument to the importance and love of community that has been a hallmark throughout the history of our Town. The names on these bricks serves as a reminder of what our Town is about, and that it stands now as always, a community of friendship and mutual pride.

In the event that you have not yet purchased a brick for yourself or in memory of a loved one, or friend and would like to do so we would welcome your order if it can be received prior to March 1, 2008. We will continue selling bricks after March 1 however we will not place another order until 100 more are sold which could be as much as a year or so from now. So if interested please send your check for $50 per brick and three lines of text (not more than 18 characters per line including spaces and commas, periods etc.) to Alderson Main Street P. O. Box 117, Alderson WV 24910. If you believe that it may not reach us by March 1, 2008 call Tom Dameron (304) 839-7178 with your information and then mail your check to the above address.

The next phase for completion of the Park is to do a complete landscaping job complete with trees, shrubs, flowers etc., and benches along the river overlook. In the event that you, your club, or class may be interested in sponsoring some of the landscaping and plantings we would like to hear from you, and we will share ideas that may fit a budget that you may be considering. It may be appropriate for the 9 Girls Club, former football team or basketball team members, band members, thespian members, civic organizations, churches and others to pool resources and sponsor a shade tree, small garden or other portion of the landscape in memory of members, past and present. All of these efforts and dedications will be noted, and appropriate signage will be attached to each undertaking.

It is the goal to make this park a living tribute to our Town, past and present, and to provide a place where all can find pleasure along the banks of the Greenbrier.
