FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alderson Students Receive Scholarships Through TGGVCF

[Lewisburg, WV] The board of directors of the Greater Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation (TGGVCF) is pleased to announce that two outstanding students from the Alderson area were awarded scholarships administered by TGGVCF. Katlyn Elizabeth Fullen, daughter of Amy and John Fullen, and Brennan Matthew Wood, son of Nancy and Dell Wood, each received the AA McLaughlin Memorial Scholarship. These two students were honored at the Homecoming Banquet during the Fourth of July Festivities.

The AA McLaughlin Memorial Scholarship was established in 2004 by the family, friends, and former students of Coach Alexander Arbuckle McLaughlin. They created this award to recognize his love of humanity and dedication to education. Coach McLaughlin began teaching at Alderson High School 1936 and retired in 1962. He was a beloved mentor and friend who helped develop positive characteristic traits in all under his guidance.

The scholarship is presented annually to students from the Alderson area who demonstrate academic achievement and stewardship. Since the fund was established, thirteen students have received the award. The first, Jillian Rogers is now attending medical school.

This year's recipients, Katlyn Fullen are Brennan Wood, both graduated at the top of their class (number one and number two) with impressive resumes of extracurricular activities including performing arts, athletics, and community service. Interestingly, both Ms. Fullen and Mr. Wood will be attending West Virginia University in the fall with the goal of attending dental school.

The Greater Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation is a collection of 87 funds, each with separate agreements, donors, and philanthropic purposes. Applications for the A. A. McLaughlin Memorial Scholarships as well as others administered by TGGVCF are available at www.gvfoundation.org. For more information about TGGVCF and to learn how to contribute to the A. A.
