Aldersonian Club Entertained

The Aldersonian Club of the Alderson high School very delightfully entertained with a social Tuesday night in the library at the school.  Games were played and a very delightful time was had by all.  At the late hour the guests went for an old fashioned sleigh ride.  Following the ride they all drove to the home of Miss Hannah Beury Rowe where delicious refreshments were served to Miss Stella Nelson, Miss Frances Alderson, Miss Ruth Andrews, Miss Virginia Steele, Miss Dorothy Hanger, Miss Edith Williams, Miss Barbara Huffman, Miss Ruth Farley, Miss Evelyn Holladay, Mr H. R. McVey, John Raine, Herbert Gwinn, Billy Dixon, Sheldon Ayers, Miss Hannah B. Rowe, Jimmy Kershner, Junior Hedrick, Melvin Huffman, Tom Riffe, Harold Crawford, Miss Eleanor Raine and Miss Eleanor Hedges.

(You may note in the article from the 24th that the group went on a "sleigh ride."  Many of us have lamented that the winters are not as cold as they once were thus preventing ice skating, sledding and so forth; however as we reach "mature ages" most of us are pleased with this change.  It is noteworthy that the next article in this same edition of the Advertiser reported.)

Temperature Drops to 13 Below Zero at Alderson

The coldest wave for several years struck Alderson Wednesday night along with the rest of the country. In Alderson thermometers registered as low as 10 degrees below zero and at two points just outside of town 13 below was reported. The coldest 'spots' around Alderson were reported to be at the home of Mr. Fred Neely, and the Stevens place near Alderson. At Union 13 degrees below zero was reported.
This cold wave is believed to have brought the lowest temperatures in this section since the extreme cold of the winter of 1917-18.
